Limassol_Cyprus
Design Requirements:
At the beginning of 2019 The Cyprus University of Technology issued an open competition for the design and execution supervision of the student residences in Verengaria Limassol. The Brief of the competition specified a number of parameters which defined the scale and program of the residence.
Design Approach:
The studio participated in the competition with the entry of a proposal that addresses both parameters set by the brief but also a number of other concerns that were site specific.
The continuous building parts are at an angle to improve thermal efficiency and to maximize the coverage area without increasing the width of the building. Visually the building appears to be composed from different parts stacked on top of each other, a feature that was inspired by the simple yet elegant wood joints of old houses, a reference that also relates to the studies of the residents of the building.
