Design Requirements:
The plot of this residential development is located in Lakatamia Nicosia. Large part of the site is occupied by another residence which was built at the highest level of the plot’s topography and has panoramic view towards the site. The shape of the plot’s available segment is trapezoid.
The requirements for this project was to design a three-bedroom family home with private as well as formal living and dining areas, obstruct the view from the first house, and create openings that allow natural sunlight to penetrate inside.
Design Approach:
The form of the proposed design follows the shape of the plot in order to utilize all the building coefficient within the available area.
The house is divided in three levels, private living and dining at the lowest point on the Ground Floor, formal living and dining at the highest point on the Ground Floor, and bedrooms on the First Floor.
The stepped roof of the structure allows for window openings, that let natural light in, to be arranged along its edges. Furthermore, the roofs extend past the building line to create beautiful covered areas that also obstruct the view from the elevated first house.
Although every design decision was informed by the given requirements the end result is a sculptural form that feels light yet impressive.
